Impressionism
First of all, the aim of Impressionist art was to suggest rather than to clearly draw objects. Impressionist music does much the same thing, focusing on creating a sense of the piece's topic by using blurred harmony and delicate shadings of sound rather than relying on standard forms and a strong, clear rhythmic beat. There is an air of mystery, magic and wonder that surrounds Impressionistic music. This type of music focuses on suggestion and atmosphere, "conveying the moods and emotions aroused by the subject rather than a detailed tone‐picture". Impressionism used rubato, a musical term referring to expressive and rhythmic freedom by a slight speeding up and then slowing down of the tempo of a piece at the discretion of the soloist(person playing the instrument), and can be simply said, 'freedom of time'. Famous composers of impressionistic music are Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel. Page'd album by Claude Debussy |
